Jane Kagoli Maganga
Jane holds a medical degree from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and a Masters degree in Public Health from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. She joined the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) in May 2022 to coordinate a research project titled “Genital Immune, Mucosal, and Viral Effects of Female Genital Schistosomiasis in Tanzania”. This is a five-year program of research which aims to understand the immune, epithelial, and viral changes that occur in the female genital tract during Schistosoma haematobium infection and how those changes persist after praziquantel therapy. Part of this research will contribute towards Jane’s ongoing PhD training at the Leiden University Medical Centre, Leiden, The Netherlands.
Before joining MITU Jane was involved in a range of research projects at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) Mwanza centre, including studies on the epidemiology of schistosomiasis in rural communities, HIV prevention studies and a parenting study. Prior to working at NIMR, she worked as a clinician at the Sekou Toure regional referral hospital in Mwanza, Tanzania.
